SERVICES and RATES
Each manuscript is unique in content and editorial requirements. One client may require only light copy editing, while another may need extensive corrections of grammar and/or punctuation. Another client may want an analysis and critique of the overall content. Still another may require content editing or revisions of parts of the manuscript. In many cases, more than one service may be required.
Manuscript Analysis and Critique
Your manuscript is first reviewed as an overall concept, than as a marketable work. I work on hard-copy, double spaced pages and often include comments, questions and considerations as they come up in the manuscript. In addition to these comments, I provide a comprehensive analysis report, which can run from three to fifteen pages or more, depending on the manuscript contents. I firmly believe that if there is a problem, it should be clearly identified for the writer and solutions for resolving the issue should be provided.
Copy Editing
Copy editing identifies and corrects errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence structure. I work with hard copy, double spaced pages and all corrections are noted directly on the page. The author is responsible for entering all corrections to his or her manuscript, unless other arrangements are made in advance.
Content Editing
In addition to identifying copy editing issues, this service addresses necessary revisions and rewrites to improve the flow of the story, character development, pacing, plot and tension.
Manuscript Preparation
Manuscript preparation includes entering the manuscript into a computer software program and providing you with both a hard copy and a computer disk. I work with both handwritten and typewritten materials. During the process, the manuscript is edited for spelling and punctuation.
You may want to combine manuscript preparation with copy editing and/or content editing, in which case I enter all copy and content editing corrections into a new file, providing you a clean hard copy and a disk of the manuscript.
Assistance in Self Publishing
Those who prefer to self-publish their manuscripts may want a combination of the above services. In addition to making sure the manuscript is as well-written as possible, I can provide either camera ready copy or work with you and your publisher to prepare a computer disk, meeting the publisher’s requirements and specifications.
Rates
Because of the myriad differences in material, all services are provided on an hourly fee basis, wherein the client pays for whatever service or combination of services may be required and requested.
All services are billed at $40/hour. Prior to receiving a manuscript, I prefer to talk with the client in email or by telephone, to determine the size of the manuscript and the subject or genre, as well as what services you believe are needed. At that time, I provide an estimated cost of the project. Once I’ve seen the manuscript, if it appears the estimate needs to be increased, I’ll call you and discuss my concerns, before continuing with the project.
I’ve provided the following page estimates to help you establish a "ball park" figure for services you may need. All estimates are based on "average" manuscript requirements. No firm estimates are given until we’ve discussed your project and I’ve reviewed your manuscript.

One half the estimated cost of the project is due when the manuscript is submitted. The balance is due upon completion of the work.
